Does AppleCare+ cover a cracked MacBook screen?

Yes. AppleCare+ for Mac covers accidental damage, and a cracked screen costs a $99 service fee in the US. The standard one-year warranty does not cover cracks from drops or pressure, only manufacturing defects.

Not ready to pay for a repair? If the damage sits along an edge, you can block off the broken part and keep using the rest.

Compare the AppleCare+ fee with the full price for your model in the repair cost calculator.

Check whether you're covered

  1. Open the Apple menu, System Settings, General, About, and look at the coverage line.
  2. Or go to checkcoverage.apple.com and enter the serial number.
  3. If your Mac is recent and has no AppleCare+, check whether you can still add it. Apple allows purchase within a limited window after buying the Mac, and it may require an inspection.

If you're covered

Book a Genius Bar appointment or mail-in repair. Back up first. The $99 gets you a genuine display assembly, and the service fee is the same whether the crack is small or large.

If you're not covered

If the damage runs along one edge, CrackMac can keep windows, menus and the pointer off it. There's a free 30-minute trial.

Quick answers

How much does AppleCare+ charge for a cracked MacBook screen?

A $99 service fee for accidental damage to the screen or enclosure, in the US. Other damage costs more, and fees vary by country.

Does the standard Apple warranty cover a cracked screen?

No. The one-year limited warranty covers manufacturing defects, not accidental damage like drops or pressure cracks.

Damage along an edge?

A macOS desktop with CrackMac running: black bands cover the damaged left and bottom edges, and the menu bar and windows sit inside the working part of the screen.
With CrackMac: the damaged left and bottom edges are blacked out, and the menu bar and windows stay on the working glass.

CrackMac keeps windows, the menu bar and the pointer on the part of the screen that still works, and paints the dead strip black. You draw the line once, on a picture of your screen, and it stays out of your way after that.
