In one sentence

CrackMac turns a cracked MacBook screen into a smaller screen that works, by keeping everything inside the part of the glass that isn't damaged.

The story

A band down the left edge of the maker's MacBook Air screen died, and another along the bottom. The Mac itself was fine, but macOS kept putting the Apple menu, window buttons and half of every sidebar exactly where they could no longer be seen.

The usual advice, lowering the resolution, doesn't work: macOS always draws to the whole panel and scales to fit, so the picture just shrinks inside the same broken frame. So the maker wrote an app that moves everything out of the way instead. That MacBook is still in daily use, and every photo on the CrackMac home page is of it.
