MacBook Pro screen replacement: cost for every model in 2026

A MacBook Pro screen replacement costs $99 with AppleCare+. Without it, Apple's genuine display costs $527 to $879 in 2026, depending on the size and whether it has nano-texture glass, and an in-store repair adds labour. The screen is a whole assembly with the lid and hinges, which is why even a small crack costs this much.

Apple's price by model

Apple's own prices for the genuine display, from its Self Service Repair store, checked 13 October 2026. If you repair it yourself, Apple credits you for sending the old display back. An Apple Store repair uses the same part plus labour.

Intel MacBook Pro, 2016 to 2020

Apple doesn't sell displays for Intel models through Self Service Repair, and Apple Store quotes for them are often close to what the Mac is worth. On 2016 and 2017 models, a screen that flickers or goes dark with the lid angle is often the display cable rather than the panel, and some independent shops replace only the cable. Here's how to tell.

Is it worth it?

If the damage runs along one edge, CrackMac can keep windows, menus and the pointer off it. There's a free 30-minute trial.

How long it takes

Apple usually needs five to seven business days, because most MacBook display repairs go to a repair centre. Back up with Time Machine before you hand it over. Prices for every MacBook, Air included, are in screen replacement cost.

Quick answers

How much does it cost to replace a MacBook Pro screen?

With AppleCare+, $99. Without it, Apple's genuine display alone costs $527 to $879 depending on the model, and Apple adds labour for an in-store repair. Independent shops are usually cheaper.

Is it worth replacing a MacBook Pro screen?

On a 14 or 16-inch model from 2021 onward, usually yes, because the Mac is worth far more than the repair. On a 2016 to 2020 Intel model, the repair often costs more than the Mac is worth.

Can I replace a MacBook Pro screen myself?

On Apple silicon models, yes. Apple's Self Service Repair store sells the genuine display with its manual and rents the tool kit. You get a credit when you send the old display back. It's a demanding repair.

Is the damage only along one edge?

A macOS desktop with CrackMac running: black bands cover the damaged left and bottom edges, and the menu bar and windows sit inside the working part of the screen.
With CrackMac: the damaged left and bottom edges are blacked out, and the menu bar and windows stay on the working glass.

Before you spend $527 on a MacBook Pro display, try CrackMac. It paints the damaged strip black and keeps windows, the menu bar and the pointer on the rest of the screen.
