Which MacBook do I have? Find your exact model

Type the model number from the bottom of your MacBook, such as A2337, or the model identifier from System Information, such as Mac14,2. You'll see the exact model, whether it runs current macOS, and what a screen repair costs for it.

Look for "Model A" followed by four digits on the bottom case.

Three ways to find it

  1. About This Mac. Choose Apple menu, About This Mac. The model name and year are at the top. Click More Info for the serial number.
  2. The bottom case. Turn the Mac over. In the small print you'll find Model A followed by four digits. This works even when the screen is broken.
  3. System Information. Hold Option, choose Apple menu, System Information. Model Identifier is on the first page.

Can't see the screen at all? The bottom case is the way. If the print has worn off, Apple's Check Coverage page at checkcoverage.apple.com identifies the Mac from its serial number, which is printed in the same place.

Questions

How do I find out which MacBook I have?

Choose Apple menu, About This Mac. The name and year are at the top, such as MacBook Air 13-inch, M2, 2022. If you can't see the screen, turn the Mac over: the model number, starting with A, is printed in small text on the bottom case. Type it into this page.

Where is the model number on a MacBook?

On the bottom case, in the small print near the hinge or the middle, after the word Model. It looks like A2337. Use a phone camera and zoom in if the print is hard to read.

Can I find my MacBook model from the serial number?

Yes. Enter the serial number at Apple's Check Coverage page, checkcoverage.apple.com, and it shows the exact model. The serial number is also printed on the bottom case and shown in About This Mac.

What's the difference between the model number and the model identifier?

The model number, starting with A, is printed on the case and can cover several years. The model identifier, such as Mac14,2, is shown in System Information and pins down the exact model. This page accepts both.

Checking your model because the screen is damaged?

A macOS desktop with CrackMac running: black bands cover the damaged left and bottom edges, and the menu bar and windows sit inside the working part of the screen.
With CrackMac: the damaged edges are blacked out, and the menu bar and windows stay on the working glass.

If the damage is along one edge, you may not need a repair at all. CrackMac keeps windows, the menu bar and the pointer on the part of the screen that still works, on any MacBook that runs macOS 13 or later.
