The two resolutions on a Mac
macOS lets you choose how big things look, from Larger Text to More Space in System Settings, Displays. That's the first number above. Retina screens draw everything with two physical pixels per point, so the panel's real resolution is twice as wide and twice as tall. That's the second number.
Native resolution of current MacBooks

|---|---|
| MacBook Air 13-inch, M1 | 2560 × 1600 |

| MacBook Air 15-inch | 2880 × 1864 |

| MacBook Pro 14-inch | 3024 × 1964 |

Questions
What is my screen resolution on a Mac?
This page shows it instantly. On a Mac there are two numbers: the resolution things look like, which you choose in System Settings, Displays, and the real number of pixels on the panel, which is higher on Retina screens.
What does Retina mean for the resolution?
A Retina screen packs two physical pixels into each point you see, so text is sharp. A MacBook Air that looks like 1470 by 956 actually has 2940 by 1912 pixels behind it.
How do I change the resolution on my Mac?
System Settings, Displays. Pick an option from Larger Text to More Space. For every option, turn on Show all resolutions under Advanced.
Why does a website say a different resolution?
Websites see the size in points, not physical pixels. Multiply by the pixel ratio shown here to get the physical number.
