Mic test: check your microphone online, with playback

Test your MacBook microphone or any mic in seconds. Watch the live level, record a few seconds and play them back to hear what others hear, or listen to yourself live with headphones. Nothing is uploaded.

Runs entirely in your browser. Nothing is recorded, uploaded or stored.

The test turns off echo cancellation and noise suppression, so you hear the raw microphone. Video apps add those filters on top.

Questions

How do I test my microphone?

Click Start microphone, allow access, and speak. The level bar should jump when you talk. Record a few seconds and play them back to hear exactly what others hear.

Why is my MacBook microphone not working?

Check System Settings, Privacy & Security, Microphone, and switch on the app. Then check System Settings, Sound, Input, and pick the right microphone with the input level up. If the bar stays flat everywhere, the microphone may be faulty or blocked by dust or a case.

Can I hear myself in the mic test?

Yes. Turn on Hear myself to send the microphone to your speakers live. Use headphones, or you'll get a loud feedback whistle.

Is my voice recorded or uploaded?

No. The test recording stays in your browser's memory and disappears when you leave the page.

Cracked or partly dead MacBook screen?

A macOS desktop with CrackMac running: black bands cover the damaged left and bottom edges, and the menu bar and windows sit inside the working part of the screen.
With CrackMac: the damaged edges are blacked out, and the menu bar and windows stay on the working glass.

If part of your screen is damaged, CrackMac keeps windows, the menu bar and the pointer on the part that still works and paints the damage black. Free for 30 minutes.
