MacBook Air screen replacement: cost for every model in 2026
A MacBook Air screen replacement costs $99 with AppleCare+. Without it, Apple's genuine display costs $395 to $527 in 2026, from the M1 to the 15-inch models, and an in-store repair adds labour. Used genuine displays and independent shops can cost much less. The screen comes as one assembly with the lid and hinges, so the price is the same for a small crack and a shattered one.
Not ready to pay for a repair? If the damage sits along an edge, you can block off the broken part and keep using the rest.
Apple's price by model
Apple's own prices for the genuine display, from its Self Service Repair store, checked 13 October 2026. If you repair it yourself, Apple credits you for sending the old display back. An Apple Store repair uses the same part plus labour.
| Model | Genuine display | Credit for the old part | DIY after credit |
|---|---|---|---|
| MacBook Air 13-inch, M1, 2020, A2337 | $395 | $88 | $307 |
| MacBook Air 13-inch, M2, M3, M4 and M5 | $483 | $88 | $395 |
| MacBook Air 15-inch, M2, M3, M4 and M5 | $527 | $88 | $439 |

Intel MacBook Air, 2020 and earlier
Apple doesn't sell displays for Intel Airs through Self Service Repair. Used displays are easy to find for the 2018 to 2020 Retina models, and independent shops fit them for much less than Apple. On these older Airs the repair often costs more than the Mac is worth, so get a quote before deciding.
Your options
| Route | Cost | Good to know |
|---|---|---|
| Apple with AppleCare+ | $99 | Genuine display, flat fee for accidental damage |
| Apple without AppleCare+ | The part above plus labour | Ask for a quote first. It's free. |
| Independent shop | Usually below Apple | Ask whether the display is genuine and whether True Tone keeps working |
| Self Service Repair | The part, minus the credit, plus tool kit rental | A demanding repair. Step by step. |
| Used genuine display | Often well below Apple's price | Check the colour and model number. Where to buy. |
Is it worth it?
- Usually worth it: an M2 or newer Air, or anything with AppleCare+.
- Think twice: an M1 Air, where the repair can approach half its value. Fix or sell?
- Maybe not needed: one dead strip along an edge with the rest of the picture fine. Air panels often fail exactly this way.
If the damage runs along one edge, CrackMac can keep windows, menus and the pointer off it. There's a free 30-minute trial.
How long it takes
Apple usually needs five to seven business days. Back up with Time Machine first. Prices for every MacBook, Pro included, are in screen replacement cost, and MacBook Pro models in MacBook Pro screen replacement.
Quick answers
How much does it cost to replace a MacBook Air screen?
With AppleCare+, $99. Without it, Apple's genuine display alone costs $395 to $527 depending on the model, and Apple adds labour for an in-store repair. Used genuine displays and independent shops are usually cheaper.
Why is a MacBook Air screen replacement so expensive?
On Apple silicon Airs the screen isn't a separate piece of glass. The panel, lid, hinges, camera and antennas come as one display assembly, so even a small crack means replacing all of it.
Is it worth fixing a MacBook Air screen?
On an M2 or newer Air, usually yes. On an M1 Air, the repair can be close to half its resale value, so compare with selling it. On an Intel Air from 2020 or earlier, it rarely makes sense.
Is only part of the screen broken?

Many cracked MacBook Air screens fail as one dead strip along an edge. Before you pay $395 for a new display, try CrackMac: it keeps windows, the menu bar and the pointer on the part that still works.
